Have taken out a few groups, did a successful photography day and will be spending this weekend teaching reptile survey protocol to ecologists. Saw four gravid females test digging within a few feet of each other...and some interesting behaviour... One female was clearly dominant, and at one point pulled a female out of the hole she was digging, throwing her aside, and took possession of the hole and continued to dig...never seen that before ! Also the other side of the coin, I once saw two females digging within 30cm of each other and then they calmly swapped places and laid in each others burrow!! I think I included it in an article in BBC Wildlife mag a few years back. When they are diggin and if you lie still you can get real close to them. Makes you wonder how many get predated when burrowing. 'I get my kicks on Route 62'

Weather was hot and windy, so not ideal. Will try again tomorrow morning.
