Posted: 29 May 2008 Not too long until they start laying. The occasional test burrows starting already. Pic from this afternoon, just before it poured on me . Steve Langham - Chairman Surrey Amphibian & Reptile Group (SARG). |

Posted: 30 May 2008 Have you been out much recently Steve? I haven't had the chance to get to my Woolmer sites for quite a while, just been too busy doing other stuff. Mark Hampshire Amphibian and Reptile Group. |

Posted: 30 May 2008 Hi Mark, Similar here...at least no time on my Todd. Have taken out a few groups, did a successful photography day and will be spending this weekend teaching reptile survey protocol to ecologists. Hopefully it'll be a good system, they get professional training and CV building, we get professional surveys done, and decent records, maybe a rare win-win situation :P Steve Langham - Chairman Surrey Amphibian & Reptile Group (SARG). |

Posted: 31 May 2008 Well its nice to see a mutually beneficial situation taking place. If I do get a free Saturday somewhen and you're not busy, we could sort something via e-mail? Mark Hampshire Amphibian and Reptile Group. |

Posted: 17 Jun 2008 Got back from France today, and took a couple of hours out on the Common to chill. Saw four gravid females test digging within a few feet of each other...and some interesting behaviour... One female was clearly dominant, and at one point pulled a female out of the hole she was digging, throwing her aside, and took possession of the hole and continued to dig...never seen that before ! This pic is of the dominant female coming in for the attack... Steve Langham - Chairman Surrey Amphibian & Reptile Group (SARG). |

Posted: 17 Jun 2008 supurb shots Steve never been lucky enough to capture this on camera but I have seen them copulating at Frensham in the days when you were lucky to have a brownie camera on your person.keith LOCAL ICYNICAL CELTIC ECO WARRIOR AND FAILED DRUID |

Posted: 17 Jun 2008 I have seen this dominance thing at Furzebrook a few times. Also the other side of the coin, I once saw two females digging within 30cm of each other and then they calmly swapped places and laid in each others burrow!! I think I included it in an article in BBC Wildlife mag a few years back. When they are diggin and if you lie still you can get real close to them. Makes you wonder how many get predated when burrowing. 'I get my kicks on Route 62' |

Posted: 17 Jun 2008
BTW Steve, did you get to do any 'adder photography"??
That's what I went out for!..but didn't see a single adder in a small area that I know has at least 20 individuals. Weather was hot and windy, so not ideal. Will try again tomorrow morning. Also got sidetracked by the Sandies...and got sun burn on the back of my legs from lying still with a camera for a couple of hours .
